By Morgan Taylor
last night I got to meet my younger self
she looked around eleven years old
with shoulder length brown hair
and bangs she clearly cut herself
she had scattered freckles from the sun
and a gap in her teeth
with a laugh that was identical to mine
she asked me to play on the swing sets
and after we pretended to be top secret
spies
and I found a moment in between
to tell her that it’s safe to trust her
emotions
so that the next time she feels invalidated
or someone tells her that she’s wrong for
feeling
maybe now she’s not going to listen
