The Unused Songbird

 By Logan Lewis

-

I have no idea what to write about
The pain of the past is making me drown
This is a cautionary tale no doubt
Pekin to Mesa, a watership down

You planted a seed of hope in my mind
I should have just cast and banished you out
In a world that’s so cold and unkind
Our friendship was traded for gloom and doubt

A passenger on a runaway train
Going out west where I din’t belong
I decided you were not worth the pain
As I said goodbye, I wrote you a song

With my peace said, farewell is what you heard
Now nothing to you, the unused songbird.
